About TradeFlowLookup
TradeFlowLookup is a free, public database of international trade flows. We track imports and exports between 200+ reporting countries across 97 Harmonized System (HS) product chapters, with data going back to 2000.
Who we serve
TradeFlowLookup is built for researchers, economists, business journalists, supply-chain analysts, policy staffers, and students. Whether you need to look up a single country's top export or compare bilateral trade between two nations over time, our goal is to get you there in a few clicks — no login, no paywall, no query limits.
Our data
Our primary source is the UN Comtrade database, maintained by the United Nations Statistics Division. Comtrade collects goods trade data reported by customs authorities in 200+ countries. Product classifications follow the World Customs Organization Harmonized System, updated every 5 years (most recent major revision: HS 2022).
Methodology
- Values are stored in USD thousands, as reported by Comtrade — displayed as millions, billions, or trillions for readability.
- Where the importer and exporter disagree on a value (normal — due to CIF vs FOB, timing, re-exports), we prefer the importer's figure.
- Pre-aggregated totals are computed after each ETL run — page renders never compute sums on the fly.
- Recent year data is often preliminary and subject to revision.
Limitations
Trade data has known limitations: services trade is not covered here (we focus on goods); informal/black-market flows are absent by design; some small and island nations report sporadically. See our data sources page for details.
Long Pattern LLC
TradeFlowLookup is part of the Long Pattern LLC portfolio of free public-data sites. We believe government and intergovernmental open data deserves better interfaces, and we build them.
